Origin and Interesting Facts
Guayusa (Ilex Guayusa) is a holly species related to mate, native to the Amazon region of Ecuador. There, this sacred plant has been cultivated and revered by the Kichwa Indians for centuries.
Guayusa has approximately the same caffeine content as coffee and has a slightly earthy, nutty aroma. Due to the perfect mix of ingredients (caffeine + L-theanine), Guayusa is both stimulating and relaxing.
Further unique properties include:
.) No bitter substances: There's no such thing as brewing or steeping it for too long.
On the contrary: the longer Guayusa simmers, the more caffeine is released and the stronger it becomes.
.) pH – Neutral: No stomach hyperacidity – thus suitable for all people who appreciate the invigorating effect of coffee but cannot tolerate it.
.) High caffeine content: with 1.7g / 1000g! Unlike coffee, the caffeine, which is present in a bound form, is not absorbed in the stomach but only in the intestine.
This means that the caffeine level builds up more slowly but lasts significantly longer.
.) High yield: Guayusa can be infused up to 3 times (Second Flush / Third Flush)
.) Twice as many antioxidants as GREEN TEA. Furthermore, an antibacterial and anti-parasitic effect has been observed.
.) 100% natural and 100% vegan: no fertilizers or pesticides are used in the cultivation of the plant. (Corresponds to an ORGANIC certification)

Preparation
The preparation of Guayusa is different from classic tea and requires a little more time.
Depending on the desired quantity (for simplicity, we'll assume 1 liter), 1 heaped tablespoon of Guayusa Cut is placed in a pot with water and brought to a boil.
If you prefer a slightly more intense flavor, you can add a second tablespoon.
Now, the brew should simmer for at least 15 minutes (the longer, the better, as more caffeine will be released).
Once the desired intensity is reached, pour the desired amount through a sieve (coffee filters also work, of course) and serve the tea.
Now you can sweeten, refine, or simply drink it pure, as you like.
Guayusa tastes excellent, for example, with freshly squeezed orange juice and honey,
or with ginger and lemon.
